Check out [...]. On one of the tabs you'll find analysis results. The FAQ page says: "There are simply too many varieties of pharmaceuticals that could end up in drinking water. By too many I mean it is impossible to test for them all. However, we do know from testing, that the purification process used by the Black Berkey elements remove more pollutants than any other system available on the market today." It also describes a test you can do by adding red food coloring to the water to be sure the filter is working. Any filter that will remove red food coloring has to be pretty effective. Regarding the high TDS rate one reviewer mentions, the FAQ page says, "Berkey purification systems do not remove the beneficial minerals from the water but they do extract harmful heavy metals such as lead and mercury as well as sedimentary minerals such as iron oxide. So even the best quality drinking water here tastes of plastics, chemicals and metals. Now I simply pour this 'drinking water' through my beloved Berkey Light and it comes out tasting like heaven! So pure, so tasteless and some how it even feels like 'wetter' water in my mouth. Perhaps the water molecules are reduced in size due to the extensive filtering. NOTE: if you are attaching the white PF-2 Flouride Filters be sure not to turn them more than the recommended 8 turns, I didn't read the instructions fully and when I attached them I heard a crunch - I managed to break the media screen by turning too much - hope this doesn't end up harming my health too much! I cannot recommend this product highly enough - 5 stars! I wish I had invested in one of these 5 years ago! 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful: Filter may work well, but container design is poor., Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Berkey Light with 2 Black Filters and 2 PF-2 Fluoride Filters Update 10/31/11 The water filtration seems to be good. However, as I've mentioned before with the flaw in the design where the excess water sits in both the top and bottom container and in addition, it is not refridgerated. If you are one person like myself who can't go through 2.5 gallons of water per day, your going to have filtered water sitting in the bottom container for 2 to 3 days sometimes. The problem is, because the bottom 1" of water never gets emptied completely, it can become stagnant and add humidity to the inside of container. I noticed recently when i opened it up, there was a sheen of what appeared like oil all over the top of the water. I don't know if that's a bacterial build up or hopefully not chemical leaching from the container. I also noticed that the plastic where humidity and moisture collects underneath the top container started to smell a little of stale odor. I took it off and cleaned it and left it to dry. I think the only way to use this... Read more |
