The two-pack MAVEA 1001496 Universal Fit Water Filter Cartridge is designed to be compatible with most water filtration systems on the market, including Brita, PUR, and other popular brands. But unlike other leading water filtration cartridges, MAVEA cartridges can be easily recycled using MAVEA's filter recycling program. These cartridges have a 40-gallon filter capacity and significantly reduce the taste and odor of chlorine in water, as well as harmful contaminants.

MAVEA universal water filter cartridge fits most pitchers on the market. |
The Universal filter has many of the same performance features as the MAVEA Maxtra filter--including no pre-soaking, silverized carbon to inhibit bacteria growth, and a micro-screen mesh that reduces the release of black carbon bits into the system--but at a price that represents significant savings when compared to leading brands.
Certified to Reduce Chlorine Taste and Odor
Each MAVEA Maxtra water filter cartridge is certified by the Water Quality Association NSF/ANSI 42 to reduce chlorine taste and odor.
Toast to Cleaner Water and a Greener Planet
The Universal Fit Filter by MAVEA delivers great filtration performance and value. Americans send an estimated 38 billion water bottles to landfills each year. In comparison, each MAVEA water filter equals approximately 300 bottles of water--without the associated waste.
MAVEA is the only water filter company that offers a comprehensive filter recycling program. Consumers can easily recycle used filters at recycling bins located in participating stores, or by sending them directly through the mail at MAVEA's expense. The company recycles the used filters at its facility, where the components are separated, cleaned, and reused in commercial non-food filter applications--you can be sure absolutely no parts will end up in a landfill.

I use Brita water filters so my comparisons will be to that product. There are two things I dislike about Brita filters- one, you must presoak them and two, carbon from the filter seeps out into the filtered water. It is very upsetting to see. When I first read about the Mavea Universal Fit filters which require no presoaking and use a micro screen to keep carbon from leaking out of the filter into the filtered water, I was ecstatic. When I read further that they are substantially cheaper than Brita filters I was over the moon. Now, it's reality time- putting the Mavea filter through its paces. Not having to presoak was wonderful and I did not see any carbon in the filtered water. So far so good. However, it is recommended that the Mavea filters be prewashed with two pitchers of water which is a bit of a nuisance. You have to get into Mavea's fine print to find out about this. The same thing must be done with Brita filters. Next up is Mavea's claim that their filters are... We've been using the Brita filters for years; I didn't know there were alternative filters. Though you don't have to soak these filters for an extended time period, you do have to dunk them first before putting in the pitcher. These Mavea filters are shorter than the Brita filters and they sit up higher in the upper chamber. What I like most is the complete absence of those black specks that sometimes find their way into the lower section of the pitcher. With the Brita filters those black specks are omnipresent no matter what you do. The only negative I see with the Mavea filters is that they seem slower to filter the water than the Brita filters. I guess that doesn't matter unless you are in a hurry for some filtered water. So now Brita pitcher users have a choice - charcoal specks in the pitcher or the painfully slow filtering of the Mavea. 6 of 7 people found the following review helpful: maxtra cartridge / universal fit cartridge confusion, By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Mavea 1001496 Universal Filter for Water Filtration Pitchers, 2-Pack (Kitchen) I would rate this five stars but for the following mix-up I have a Mavea elamaris XL pitcher and am very happy with it. Recently I have experienced some confusion when trying to order refill filters for it from amazon. I ordered what I thought were the right filters. When they came I discovered I had ordered Universal Fit filters which are made by Mavea but do not fit the elemaris pitcher. I think they are made to fit Brita pitures. So I have to return them. Now it is strange because when I go to my orders it says I ordered these universal fit filters but when I click the link it brings me to the Maxtra filters (which is the right one) Also when you go to the Maxtra filter page there are options to order 1,2,or3. It is 3 for 21.95 or 2 for 9.99. I had decided to order 2 x2 as it was cheaper. However when you click on the 1 or three it shows a picture of the maxtra filter and when you click on the two it shows a picture of the... Read more |
